There’s no denying that in the current climate, times are tough! Many people are navigating multiple personal adversities from being unemployed to working on their relationship. Each of these adversities can have an effect on your mental and emotional well-being.
It’s times like this, that resilience is an important skill to have. If anything, these adversities have forced us to take a long, hard look at ourselves and our lives from a different perspective.
Change builds resilience.
It is through our learned experiences, and the difficult changes that we have had to make - that help us to build resilience.
Resilience can be described as the ability to bounce back after a tough, or challenging time.
The difference between resilient people, and the ones still learning to build it - is that when times get tough instead of giving up - they push back harder. They don’t allow their emotions to take over, and instead, they refuse to give up and channel their strength into focus to keep moving forward.
Here are 6 steps you can take now to begin to build resilience:
- Build your tribe
Begin to build your tribe. Your tribe should consist of people who build you up, support you and provide unconditional love. - Find a purpose
Having a purpose can play an important role in your life. Your purpose can be a project-driven objective, hobby or entrepreneurship. Having a purpose will help keep you focused and on track. - Understand what you can and can’t control
You can’t control the actions and thoughts of others, but you can control your own thoughts, actions and feelings. - Self care
Look after yourself with daily self-care activities. Meditation, daily exercise, eating right, getting adequate sleep and taking part in activities that make you happy will make a huge difference to your health. - Believe in your strengths and abilities
Believe in yourself, and know that you even have your own unique strengths, talents and abilities. No one is you. What can you bring to the table that others cannot? - Remain optimistic and keep pushing forward
Remain optimistic and keep pushing forward even through the toughest times, knowing that if you keep persevering things will improve. Remember, what you focus on, grows.
So I ask you, what adversities have you faced recently and how did you overcome them?
