Finding the Right Work-Life Balance

The pandemic threatened our existence as we knew it, bringing a new norm of lockdowns, remote work environments, and isolation. Covid-19 brought problematic work-life concerns (which previously existed in the workforce) to the forefront such as chronic stress, anxiety, and mental health issues immensely affecting the world. Now corporations have started to adapt by reinventing new support systems. Corporate mental health days, revamped HR policies, are obligatory for employees’ well-being. But are these changes really working?

Amidst these challenging times, I want to remind you there is hope for you to find balance. Be curious, patient, and kind with yourself. It is in these moments when you bring more self-awareness and mindfulness that will transform you by feeling happy and at peace with your life.

I want to share a few practices I’ve incorporated into my daily life the past year and half, that have brought alignment to my work-life balance.

  1. Discover Your Why
When we understand what is most important in our lives and schedule our priorities first, we inherently become more productive, eliminate needless worries, and stop wasting our precious time.

  2. Be More Focused
Identify your distractions and replace them with activities that add value to your life. Work smarter, not harder, by making the best use of your time.

  3. Say “No”
Stop feeling obligated to agree to do everything people ask of you at work. Listen to yourself. Start by setting healthy boundaries, voicing your needs by being assertive, and avoid handing hours of your time to people who do not honor you most.

  4. Love Yourself
Make an invisible love deposit to yourself by consciously making a balanced life non-negotiable.

Our obligations and responsibilities withdraw from our balance and hinder joy. Like riding a bike, we learn best through continuous practice. We often fall at first and even crash, but in time we learn to be more attuned, catching ourselves, and gliding through the unexpected roadblocks.

Life is a daring adventure! Let's celebrate every moment today by honoring ourselves first, and everything else will fall into a beautiful balance.
